The Longlegs universe is getting bigger.
Nicolas Cage and Osgood Perkins are working on a new Longlegs movie with Paramount Pictures, following up on one of the highest-grossing independent films of the past decade.
The New Longlegs Movie
Perkins will write and direct the second installment.
The yet-to-be-titled new Longlegs movie was revealed on the 14th of the month (a significant number for the franchise).
Other details have not been released, though sources have shared the film is not a sequel but something “set in the Longlegs universe.” Cage will return to star and produce.
Paramount Pictures Gets Rights
While Neon was the original distributor for Longlegs, there is a new company in town. Paramount Pictures picked up the rights to the new project.
Some sources note that Neon stepped aside when the new project’s scope and budget exceeded the company’s normal parameters.
This will be yet another horror addition to Paramount’s slate, which has increased under Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg.
Success of First Film
Longlegs is about an FBI agent hunting a homicidal maniac after surviving an encounter with him as a child.
The 2024 film was an instant hit, launching Perkins as a horror filmmaker and Maika Monroe as a true scream queen. Cage’s performance as Longlegs continued to highlight his prowess in twisted roles.
The film grossed $128 million from a $10 million budget. It became Neon’s highest-grossing domestic outing, and an underrated horror film viewers should watch.
Behind the Scenes
Other producers from the film are Brian Kavanaugh Jones (Range Media Partners), Perkins and Chris Ferguson (Phobos), and Dave Caplan (C2). Caplan financed the initial movie.
Perkins Future Projects
Perkins has several projects that may be worth going to the theater for. He’s currently wrapping production on The Young People starring Nicole Kidman, Lola Tung, and Nico Parker.
Other titles include The Monkey, which is an adaptation of a short story by Stephen King, and Keeper.
