The 2 billion hour man

When Netflix announced its most-watched content and Sandler’s Murder Mystery was on top, it came as some surprise considering the competition on the platform.

According to Netflix, Murder Mystery was streamed over 30 million times within just days of its release. The moment this was announced, it was inevitable Sandler would be getting an extended deal — and then came this tweeted stat.

This is an outrageous number. Granted, it is from Netflix’s vast global audience of over 160 million subscribers, yet it proves Sandler is a hot property. He’s received greater notice now after his performance in the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems.

Adam Sandler on Netflix

To date, Sandler has made The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, and Murder Mystery. He has also done a stand-up show for the streaming giant called 100% Fresh. His production company currently has two additional movies in the works, including an untitled animation and Hubie Halloween.

What’s bizarre is that despite the popularity, his body of work on Netflix hasn’t been well-received. His first movie for Netflix, The Ridiculous 6 (2015), received a critics score of 0 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Even Murder Mystery only earned a score of 41 percent from 730 audience reviewers.

This proves once and for all that reviews don’t matter when it comes to popularity. Check out the Uncut Gems trailer below — it’s a great movie.
