What’s Top Gun Maverick About?
After thirty years of service to the Navy as one of the top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell continues to push the envelope of air travel. Testing out new types of fighter planes instead of climbing the promotional ranks that would keep him out of the cockpit, he is assigned a new task.
Maverick must train a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a dangerous assignment, while confronting the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears. This culminates in a mission that will demand the ultimate sacrifice from those who are chosen to fly it.
In the mission, Maverick must teach and pick the top students of the class in order to create a team of aviators to complete the mission. One of these aviators happens to be call-sign Rooster, also known as Goose’s son. Maverick has a tough time trying to bond with Rooster, and ends up pushing him away as he tries to protect Rooster from getting killed like his father did.
This is a perfect movie to show the trauma that still plagues Maverick from his best friend’s death, and how he must grow in order to protect the new generation of Top Gun graduates.
