Sophie Turner is making headlines for her newest transformation.
While Amazon’s Tomb Raider series may have been announced back in 2023, not much has been revealed about the series. However, fans are now getting their first look at protagonist Lara Croft, played by Turner.
She certainly looks the part. Keep reading to learn more about the series and Sophie Turner’s new look.
Sophie Turner as Lara Croft
Unlike some of the other renditions of Croft, Sophie Turner is embodying the classic Croft style from the 90s.
Sophie Turner poses in a green tank top, black shorts, red-tinted sunglasses, a backpack, and, of course, her signature holsters. It’s not just her clothes that speak to the original character design, either. She dons Lara’s signature dark-haired braid with a few loose strands, her fingerless clothes, utility belt, and gun.
While Sophie Turner may be tight-lipped about what else is in store for the Prime Video series, she has shared some comments about her excitement to play the character.
“I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara,” she commented in a 2025 statement. “They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands.”
She also talked about how the role is slightly different from her norm during an interview from earlier this month.
“It’s very different to the roles that I usually play. I’m not normally seen as an action girl or strong in who she is as a person. I often play characters that are constantly questioning themselves. It’s refreshing to do something different.”
Past Lara Croft Portrayals
The Game of Thrones actress is joining a star-studded group of women who have played Lara Croft in the past.
Actresses who appeared as Croft on screen include Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Vikander was the most recent live-action appearance, appearing in a film based on the rebooted 2010s game series.
As for other actresses taking on the Croft mantle, Good Will Hunting actress Minnie Driver voiced the character in the animated web series Revisioned: Tomb Raider.
Details About the Upcoming Series
We may finally have Croft’s outfit for the series, but many other pieces about the show are being kept firmly under wraps. This includes story details and release date. The series is being helmed by creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Amazon MGM Studios.
We do know some of the cast members, including Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Celia Imrie, Paterson Joseph, and others.
“Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters,” stated Waller-Bridge about the cast additions. “I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favorites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. The cast is beyond my wildest dreams.”
The series isn’t the only Tomb Raider piece of media to keep an eye out for in the future.
The original 1996 Tomb Raider game is in the process of being remade for current-gen consoles as Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, expected to release in 2026.
