Amazon Prime Video is diving back into the fantasy realm.
Amazon MGM Studios confirmed the Fourth Wing TV series order at the annual Upfront presentation in New York City.
The series will be an adaptation of the NYT best-selling series by Rebecca Yarros.
Fourth Wing Books

The Fourth Wing TV series is based on the best-selling romantasy book series from author Rebecca Yarros. The series is set in the brutal Basgiath War College, where there is just one rule: graduate or die.
The book follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who was planning on living a quiet life. That is, until her mother, a general in the military, forces her on a completely different path by ordering her to join the hundreds of candidates vying to become dragon riders.
The elite of Navarre, she must figure out how to survive several obstacles and people, or die trying.
The first book was published in 2023 and quickly rose to popularity, gaining a large fanbase from the BookTok section of TikTok and other social media platforms.
The sequel, Iron Flame, was published in November 2023, with the third book, Onyx Storm, releasing in January 2025. Both were instant best sellers.
As of now, the titles and release dates for the fourth and fifth books have not been announced.
Jordan Picking the Project
Fourth Wing executive producer Michael B. Jordan also announced the series pickup at the Beacon Theatre on Monday.
While he couldn’t comment on much yet, he did share that after acquiring the rights and bringing the project to Amazon MGM Studios, they needed the right team.
Jordan, along with his Outlier Society production company, found what they needed in Yarros herself, HBO’s Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy, and showrunner Meredith Averill.
The Fourth Wing TV series was first in development back in October 2023, but was stalled until last September, when Averill joined as showrunner after Moira Walley-Beckett exited the project after signing on in the summer of 2024.
Producers
Other executive producers include the Outlier president Elizabeth Raposo, Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham of Kilter Films, Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark for Premeditated Productions, and Outlier Society executive vice president of TV, Stefano Agosto.
Excitement for the Fourth Wing TV Series

Along with the fans, there is a lot of excitement brewing for the creators, too.
Yarros shared, “I’m thrilled to be working with this dedicated, experienced team and grateful for their passion for both the books and the readership behind them.”
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, also provided a statement.
“Violet’s journey in Fourth Wing has sparked a global phenomenon, captivating millions of readers and building an intensely passionate fanbase around its world, characters, and emotional stakes. Rebecca Yarros’ brilliant series is one of the most anticipated adaptations in the world, and with Meredith and our valued partners at Kilter, Outlier, and Premeditated, we’re bringing it to life in a way that honors what fans love about the story.”
