The search for the truth is back. Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot is going forward with the pilot, which will stream on Hulu.
Danielle Deadwyler is set to co-lead in the reboot, with many other talented people working behind the scenes to get this series ready for viewers.
Danielle Deadwyler Cast
Danielle Deadwyler is officially cast to play one of the two coveted starring roles in the X-Files reboot. The other lead role has yet to be cast.
Deadwyler has been in several popular series and films recently. She is set to star in the upcoming HBO comedy series Rooster alongside Steve Carell, Charly Clive, and Phil Dunster, and appears in Season 3 of Euphoria. Or, check her out in The Saviors, an American dark comedy thriller.
In the past, Deadwyler has appeared in The Woman in the Yard and Netflix’s adaptation of The Piano Lesson.
What is the X-Files Reboot About?
The official logline for the X-Files reboot pilot states, “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”
This is the first-ever reboot of the X-Files series, though the show did return since it originally went off the air in 2001 after nine seasons. Later, Fox revived the series for two more seasons in 2016 and 2018.
There have also been two feature films in the universe, The X-Files in 1998 and The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008.
Behind the Scenes
Ryan Coogler will write, direct, and executive produce the pilot. Jennifer Yale is serving as showrunner and executive producer.
Other executive producers include Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, Chris Carter, and Simone Harris. Onyx Collective and 20th Television are set to produce the pilot.
The series is being cast by Sinners casting director Francine Maisler.
Coogler’s Impact
Coogler confirmed his involvement in the X-Files reboot last April.
“I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f*cking scary,” he said. “We’re gonna try to make something really great and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.”
Later, in a Variety interview, Coogler shared his connection to the show and why he wanted to take on the project.
“Like my relationship with Rocky with my dad, The X-Files is one of those things with my mom. My mom means the world to me…so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.”
Coogler has worked on several films, including the two Black Panther films, the Creed franchise, and Judas and the Black Messiah. However, his biggest achievement came with his most recent credit, Sinners.
The film won three BAFTA Film Awards and has also been nominated for 16 Oscars, the most of any film in history.
