Peacock has some bad news for Clueless fans. The streaming platform has officially announced it is not moving forward with the Clueless sequel series.
The series would feature Alicia Silverstone reprising her role of Cher Horowitz.
Stalled Series
The Clueless sequel series was announced as “in development” at Peacock in April 2025.
While Peacock has stepped back from the project, according to sources, CBS Studios and Paramount “remain high on the project and the IP.” Since the fanbase is so large for Clueless, there will most likely be a large interest in the marketplace when it is posed to buyers again.
The Clueless sequel series would have served as a follow-up to the original film, featuring Cher 30 years later. It should be noted that plot details for the show were not revealed, other than the series picking up where Cher’s life is now after a long period of time.
Peacock previously developed a completely separate Clueless project in 2020 that would have been focused on Cher’s best friend Dionne; however, it never went beyond development.
Behind the Scenes
Writers for the Clueless sequel series include Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. The trio will executive produce alongside Silverstone, Amy Heckerling, and Robert Lawrence. Hekerling wrote and directed the initial film, while Larence produced the film.
Universal Television was attached to produce alongside CBS Studios, but it is no longer involved with the project.
Original Clueless

Clueless premiered in 1995 and is loosely based on the novel Emma by Jane Austen. In the film, Silverstone starred as the ultra-fashionable Cher Horowitz, showcasing her various adventures as a wealthy and popular California girl at Bronson Alcott High.
Other characters include Cher’s best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash), new kid Tai (Brittany Murphy), Dionne’s boyfriend Murray (Donald Faison), skater dude Travis (Breckin Meyer), and eventual love interest Josh (Paul Rudd).
The movie became a cultural hit and did well at the box office, earning a TV adaptation in the late 90s with Rachel Blanchard as Cher.
Upcoming Peacock Projects
Peacock’s upcoming slate of projects is packed with new and returning shows. These include Twisted Metal, The Paper, The ‘Burbs, and The Day of the Jackal.
Upcoming shows on the platform include M.I.A., The Five-Star Weekend, Dig, Superfakes, and the Friday the 13th prequel, Crystal Lake.
