YouTube TV is adding a new option to its subscription: a dedicated Sports Plan. The Sports Plan will be just one of more than 10 genre-specific channel packages released by the company in early 2026.

The move is geared towards cord-cutters who want smaller, sport-focused packages rather than the full traditional subscription. Keep reading to learn more about the Sports Plan.

The newest addition is billed to carry the ESPN family of networks, which includes ESPN Unlimited. Plus, there will be lots of cable sports channels, like FS1 and NBC Sports Network.

Perhaps the biggest offering is the Golf Channel, and since it remains the official cable broadcast partner of the PGA TOUR through 2030, subscribers of the Sports Plan should be able to access PGA Tour Live, TGL, and early round coverage of the Masters.

YouTube has announced that even though some of the packages are changing, the core platform features will be preserved across the board, including unlimited DVR, multiview, and Fantasy View, among others. In addition, viewers can add premium sports options to their subscription, like NFL Sunday Ticket and RedZone.

Early reports claim the new genre packages will be priced lower than YouTube TV’s current main-plan rate, though the exact pricing, full channel lineup, and launch date have not been released. NFL Sunday Ticket remains one of YouTube’s most important add-ons for football fans, and remains available for the 2025-26 season.

Smaller, Targeted Bundles

The timing of YouTube’s smaller package release follows a recent dispute between YouTube TV and Disney that interrupted ESPN service for some customers before a deal was made on November 14th.

Industry analysts comment that smaller, more targeted bundles could help YouTube TV expand its footprint to more sports viewers and advertisers amid the growing trend of cord-cutting. As of now, YouTube leads TV viewership in the U.S., perfect for the eventual launch of smaller, more affordable packages.

Importance of Golf Content

YouTube’s investment in sports, specifically golf content, goes beyond just carrying the events. The company has been partnering with the PGA TOUR on the Creator Classic series, and has also streamed creator-driven events like the Creator Classic at TPC Sawgrass.

It reveals a want for both traditional tournament coverage and creator-led formats. As such, it makes sense why adding the Golf Channel to the Sports Plan is crucial for YouTube and golf rights-holders.

Final Thoughts

While the announcement pivots YouTube towards a more genre-based subscription service, the exact date of these offerings remains unknown. As far as we know, the plans will launch in early 2026, as we eagerly await final prices and channel lineups to be released.

For now, the Sports Plan announcement offers the chance to have a potentially lower-cost, more customizable way for fans to enjoy sports content under one subscription.
