Will Smith is gearing up for his biggest journey yet in the new docuseries Pole to Pole on National Geographic.
The seven-part travel series will feature Smith as he traverses all seven continents, starting in the South Pole and ending in the North Pole. Learn more about the series below.
What is Pole to Pole About?
Pole to Pole takes place over 100 days of exploration for Smith, though the series itself has been in the works for five years.
Inspired by his late mentor to explore life’s big questions, Will Smith is embarking on a world tour. From skiing to the South Pole, catching a giant anaconda, milking a venomous tarantula, climbing mountains, to diving under the ice of the North Pole, Smith will explore the world in a tantalizing new way.
Through each episode, he will be guided by scientists, explorers, and local experts.
Will Smith’s Journey
Will Smith’s journey will be no easy one. By traveling through the Amazon, the Himalayas, the Pacific Islands, and the Kalahari Desert, he will encounter extreme challenges in the pursuit of science.
In Bhutan, Smith will climb to a 13,000-foot altitude village, while in the Arctic, he will dive under the ice for ecological samples. In Ecuador, he catches a green anaconda to collect a scale, and then in another part of the rainforest, he must milk a tarantula for its venom, used for several medical applications.
The journey will not be his alone. Scientists, linguists, Indigenous people, and explorers guide him in his travels.
During the trailer of the series, Smith comments, “Looking around, there’s no cars, no phones, no sounds, only the noise that you’re making. It’s like, I can be me. Somebody who’s actually flawed and scared.”
He goes on to say, “Traveling pole to pole has not only changed the way I see our planet, it’s changed the way I see myself.”
When Does Pole to Pole Premiere?
The docuseries will premiere first on National Geographic on January 13th at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT. Then, it will stream the following day on Hulu and Disney+.
