The best of both worlds is back, as Disney has released the trailer for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.
The event features Miley Cyrus and will premiere on March 24th on Disney+, exactly 20 years after the hit kids’ show premiered on Disney Channel.
Hannah Montana Anniversary Special
Miley Cyrus will don her iconic blonde wig once more as she revisits the TV show’s set alongside her dad and mom, Tish Cyrus.
Along with our favorite characters returning, fans will get to enjoy never-before-seen footage, recreations of the show’s set, iconic moments revisited, and maybe even some familiar tunes back in the spotlight.
The event will be in front of a live studio audience and will include an interview with Miley Cyrus and “Call Her Daddy” star Alex Cooper.
In a clip from the new trailer, Cyrus comments, “Already getting emotional. Wow.” Another clip features her booty bumping her dad, whose donning his signature Robby Ray Stewart style.
Father-Daughter Connection
Hannah Montana fans may recognize the booty bump as an essential part of Miley and Robby’s father-daughter handshake from the series.
It dates all the way back to Miley’s final audition for the Disney series, as she was screen testing with potential actors to play her on-screen dad.
During the testing, the casting agent said to Miley, “‘Your dad is so cute, it would be amazing if he could actually play your dad on the show.'”
While Billy Ray was working on a show in Toronto at the time, Tish Cyrus worked her magic and got him to fly back to California for an audition. The rest was history.
Cyrus showed off an old tape of her and her dad today, saying, “Here’s a video of us doing our handshake.”
While Miley did share that working with her dad wasn’t always easy, when the country singer first landed the part, Billy Ray was all smiles about the success of his daughter.
“This is so much fun, you know, getting to work with my daughter,” he shared with CBS News back in 2007.
“As a daddy, to see my little girl go through this, to be part of it, to watch her grow you know not only as an actress but as a young adult—you know being in this part of her life has been one of the most rewarding events of my life.”
The Original Series
The original Hannah Montana series premiered in 2006 and ran for four seasons until 2011. The series earned four Emmy nominations for outstanding children’s program.
The show centered around Miley Stewart, a teenager who lived in Malibu, California, and led a double life. She was also the famous pop singer Hannah Montana, releasing several hit songs.
Hannah Montana was super popular with kids and tweens, and led to Hannah Montana: The Movie. It premiered in April 2009, during the show’s third season.
Fans still listen to Hannah Montana music to this day, including popular tracks like “The Best of Both Worlds,” “Nobody’s Perfect,” “He Could Be the One,” and “Hoedown Throwdown.”

Along with Miley Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, were a bunch of other iconic cast members. This included Emily Osment as Lilly Truscott, Mitchel Musso as Oliver Oken, Jason Earles as Jackson, and Moisés Arias as Rico Suave.
The show also featured appearances from several high-profile guests, such as Dolly Parton, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Larry David, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Kelly Ripa, and Lisa Rinna.
