Country music superstar Lainey Wilson is getting her own documentary, showcasing her life and private moments she’s never shared before.

Wilson shared some of her thoughts about the documentary on the SXSW red carpet.

Keepin’ Country Cool Documentary

Titled Keepin’ Country Cool, Netflix describes the documentary as “[Wilson] redefines what it means to be a modern country star in this documentary exploring her struggles and triumphs at a pivotal career moment.”

The star has maintained that her vulnerability, not perfection, is what makes her country cool.

Each scene in the documentary reveals not just a star, but how grit, growth, anxiety, and being true to yourself got Lainey Wilson to the spotlight.

Revealing Private Aspects of Her Life

Lainey Wilson didn’t want her documentaries to be like all the others. She wanted it to showcase emotional moments Wilson has rarely shared publicly, so fans could see all sides of her story.

During her interview at SXSW, she shared that experiencing anxiety has always been a part of her life, and perhaps by showing it in the documentary, she can help fans feel less alone.

Family and friends are also a big part of the journey, with Wilson saying, “These are the people who knew me before any of this. They keep me steady.”

A sneak peek of the documentary shows Wilson in a writing session with Trannie Anderson and Dallas Wilson.

“I knew whenever I had written my first song that I loved how it made me feel when I was in the middle of writing a song, when I was coming up with the idea, feeling like ‘Man, I created something from nothing, how cool is that?'” Wilson shared.

She added, “And I knew that that feeling was so special that I couldn’t completely let it go, and I think that’s why I knew it was my calling.”

In an Instagram post about the documentary, Wilson shared more thoughts about the content within.

“It’s one thing to sing about your life, but it’s another to open the door and let people in to watch it unfold. Going into this I thought I was going to be sharing some things about me and my life nobody knew, but I truly think during the couple years of filming I figured some things out about myself. I opened the door to my house, my life, my relationship and things I haven’t allowed many people to see.”

She added, “My folks always taught me to make everybody feel at home so I want y’all to come on in and make yourself at home.”

Wilson’s Money Troubles

Lainey Wilson also opened up about the early days of her relationship with Devlin “Duck” Hodges, and how little money she had at the time. She claimed she was “so broke” that she asked her sister for financial support.

During the documentary clip, she shared a picture of Hodges and said, “I was broke. I was so broke when we met, and he thought I was doing a little bit better than I was. But a few weeks after we met, my sister had to Venmo me a couple hundred bucks.”

However, her financial troubles didn’t deter Hodges, and the couple dated in private before announcing their relationship in 2023. Two years later, Hodges proposed to Wilson in February 2025.
