Roku announced on Tuesday, March 24th, that Howdy is now launching on Amazon Prime Video.
It’s the first expansion outside of the Roku platform and provides an affordable option for viewers to enjoy a wide range of content, including some rotating Disney films.
Expanding to Prime Video
The expansion of Howdy to Prime Video isn’t much of a surprise, as Roku CEO Anthony Wood announced in January that the service would be coming to other platforms.
Gil Fuchsberg, President of Subscriptions, Partnerships, and Corporate Development at Roku, offered a statement about the addition.
“Our goal has always been to make great entertainment more accessible. Howdy offers quality content with no ads for just $2.99 a month, making it a superb value and an ideal complement to other subscriptions. We’re pleased with the response we’ve seen from our viewers and partners since launch. Expanding to Prime Video builds on our momentum and furthers our mission to deliver an ad-free streaming experience at a price that makes it easy for audiences everywhere to enjoy content they love.”
Ryan Pirozzi, Head of Prime Video Channels, also added a comment about Howdy’s addition.
“We’re delighted to launch the Howdy streaming service on Prime Video at an accessible price that delivers exceptional value. This milestone advances our mission to make premium content widely available to our Prime Video customers. Our subscription business’s continued growth demonstrates that customers appreciate the choice, quality, and diverse programming we offer through Prime Video.”
To sign up for Howdy on Prime Video, you will need either an Amazon Prime membership or a standalone Prime Video subscription.
Howdy’s Content
Howdy features a library of almost 10,000 hours of content, pulled from Roku’s partners, including Lionsgate, Sony Pictures, Disney Entertainment, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise. The platform also carries Roku Original titles.
The platform was designed to complement premium streaming services and add to the list of more than 100 subscription options on Prime Video.
As for featured content, you can enjoy titles like A Haunting in Venice, Ice Age, Sleepless in Seattle, Weeds, medical dramas, classics, 90s comedy, rom-coms, and more.
Rotating Offerings
Roku has grabbed a couple of new licensing partnerships to broaden the content on its ad-free streamer, Howdy.
These include The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
While some of the content will be available on the service for long stretches of time, others will be featured for a shorter period of time.
For instance, Howdy will have a rotating selection of Disney films each month.
Other Roku Streaming Options
Howdy joins a host of different Roku streaming options.
This includes Roku Channel, which is the most popular free, ad-supported (FAST) streaming service. More than 125 million people use the platform every day, beating out competitors Tubi and Pluto TV. Roku also has Frndly TV, an affordable live TV subscription service.
Roku’s main goal is to grow platform revenue and expand third- and first-party subscriptions across the platform.
