Several major streaming services have increased their prices in 2026, including Netflix, Paramount Plus, Amazon Music, and Spotify. Now, one more will be joining the list.

Acorn TV officially emailed its subscribers, announcing a slight price increase for DirecTV subscribers, starting in May.

Acorn TV is a premium add-on within DirecTV’s catalog of streaming and satellite packages.

As of now, the price is being raised by $1 per month. A monthly subscription costs $8.99/month. In total, those who have the service through DirecTV will pay an extra $12 a year.

However, it’s important to note that if you subscribe to DirecTV and don’t use Acorn, your bill will not be affected.

Cord Cutters‘ Luke Bouma commented on the news, writing, “DIRECTV, which integrates Acorn TV into its streaming and satellite packages, distributed the notice in recent days to alert users of the change well in advance of the new billing period. The email detailed that the modest hike applies directly to the Acorn TV channel of on-demand library access through DIRECTV accounts, with no additional fees or alterations to the overall service package mentioned.”

Rising Costs Everywhere

Acorn TV is just one of the many streaming services increasing its prices in recent years.

Luke Bouma added his thoughts about higher costs, writing, “This price adjustment occurs against a backdrop of ongoing cost pressures in the streaming sector, where providers frequently recalibrate fees to cover rising expenses for content licensing, production, and platform maintenance. …incremental increases of this scale have become routine across major and niche services alike as they seek to balance profitability with subscriber retention.”

While Acorn TV’s $1 increase shouldn’t affect users too much, with the yearly total being a $12 increase, it can add more stress to households that hold many subscriptions that keep raising their prices.
