Minecraft is a sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios and was originally released in 2009. It was fully released in 2011 and is still one of the best-selling games in history, with over 3o0 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players as of 2023.

The game is currently available on several devices, from mobile to PC, to console. Since its release, it has had an abundance of updates to keep players wanting more, with the most recent being the Tricky Trials update released on June 13, 2024. The premise is surviving the several biomes by breaking blocks and using those materials to craft tools, items, or resources to build structures.

Lurking in the dark are monsters, which means underground caves, and nighttime, brings out these vicious creatures that you must fend off. There is both a survival version of this game where you must maintain your health and hunger, as well as a creative one where you have access to all materials and are able to build, and explore, to your heart’s content.

Is the Netflix Minecraft Series Official?

Yes! Netflix officially posted that they’re working with Minecraft to create a Netflix series in May 2024. The bestselling adventure game is finally coming to the small screen. Mojang Studios and Netflix have teamed up to create new characters and storylines.

The CG-animated series is in development with WildBrain, who is behind the animated series Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and Carmen Sandiego, and hopes to show the world of Minecraft in a “new light”. This will surely bring many fans on a Minecraft hiatus into their survival worlds once more to prepare for this exciting news.

What Is It About?

The official trailer, along with the official post, doesn’t say exactly what the story will be about. The only thing that we can gather is that the series will tell an original story with new characters and reflect the world of Minecraft in a new way.

The trailer shows an adorable, yet terrifying Creeper crawling into the center, then blowing up to show the lava of the Nether, a dangerous dimension that can only be visited using Nether Portals. The fact that the trailer didn’t show off any greenery from the Overworld, nor the large ocean expanses, or even the friendly villages might be intentional.

Hopefully, the new series will explore these alternative dimensions, and even go into the End, the mysterious dimension where players can find the Ender Dragon, basically the final boss, and End Cities.
