Amazon MGM Studios has released the first Verity trailer, adapting the bestselling psychological thriller by Colleen Hoover.
This is Hoover’s fourth novel to get an adaptation in two years.
What is Verity About?
Verity centers on Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who is hired to finish the latest book from a successful book series by Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway).
Verity is incapacitated from an accident and is unable to complete the novel, and needs Lowen to ghostwrite it.
Once inside the Crawford home, Lowen becomes entangled with Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and uncovers an unfinished manuscript that raises disturbing questions about Verity and her mental stability.
The Verity Trailer
An official teaser trailer for the film has been released.
In it, Lowen is walking around wearing a silk robe at night in the Crawford family home. Verity is fast asleep in bed, ill.
The camera moves over to Jeremy, and Lowen begins making out with her, even with Verity close by.
When the two lock lips, Lowen notices blood on her mouth, and when she pulls away, it’s somehow Verity herself that she’s been kissing. Lowen pulls back and shrieks in horror.
That’s when Verity says to Lowen, “Even with my generous warning, you’re going to continue to ingest my words. But know one thing: there is no light where we’re going. Darkness ahead.”
Premiere Date
Verity premieres in theaters on October 2nd, 2026.
Cast & Behind the Scenes
Michael Showalter is directing the film, reuniting with Anne Hathaway after they worked together on the rom-com The Idea of You.
Nick Antosca wrote the film’s script and has worked on several television true-crime thrillers, including Candy, The Act, and A Friend Of The Family.
The cast includes Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett, Brady Wagner, Asel Swango, Daniel Echevarria, and Ismael Cruz Córdova.
Success of Hoover Adaptations
This is the fourth Colleen Hoover novel adaptation.
The first was Sony’s It Ends with Us, which grossed over $351 million worldwide, though some of its success has been impacted by the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal battle.
Paramount followed with Regretting You, starring Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames, grossing over $90 million.
Then Universal Studios came out with Reminders of Him, starring Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, grossing over $84 million earlier this year.
