The pair have signed up to play undisclosed characters alongside Phoebe Dynevor and Patrick Schwarzenegger in the adaptation of Emily Henry’s New York Times best-selling romantic comedy novel that is in development at 20th Century Studios.

Beach Read was published in 2020 and tells the story of January Andrews (Dynevor), a successful romance novelist who is struck by grief and writer’s block following her father’s death and the discovery of secrets he had long kept hidden.

As she spends the summer at his Michigan beach house to get it ready for sale, she unexpectedly reconnects with Gus Everett (Schwarzenegger), an author who was formerly her college rival.

With both of them creatively stuck, they agree to a writing challenge where they swap literary genres and promise that there will be no romance between them. However, plans don’t always go the way they should.

Beach Read is being directed by Yulin Kuang. Kuang was the co-writer of the Netflix adaptation of Henry’s novel People We Meet on Vacation. She’s directing from her own script, and the film premieres in cinemas in May 2027.

Kristin Davis is best known for her role as Charlotte York in the Sex and the City franchise. It seemingly came to an end last year with the conclusion of the spin-off show And Just Like That… after three seasons. However, she expressed hope that the HBO romantic comedy series could continue in some form.

Speaking on the Are You a Charlotte? podcast earlier this year, the 61-year-old actress said, “This is not based on anything real. In my mind, we’re going to do something else. I don’t think it’ll be a whole season, but I think we will do something else. But obviously no one knows who owns us right now, you know. So there’s that that’s got to be worked.”

Davis is “in denial” about the franchise ending and still hasn’t watched the final episode of And Just Like That… She explained that showrunner Michael Patrick King hasn’t given her a hint of a follow-up.

Noting they’ve met up “a couple times” since, she said, “He doesn’t say that. But I’m just, in my hopeful way, you know, going with that.”

Sex and the City Projects

Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw in the original show and its recent spinoff, admitted she’d love to return to the role in the future, but it all depends on the creator.

She told Variety, “I hear lots of very original ideas, all lovely and well intentioned and often very clever, but the only thing that really matters is what excites Michael Patrick King.”

However, Parker insisted that King is “not thinking” about a future Sex and the City project at the moment.

Parker added, “And right now he’s just not thinking about that.”
