The beloved Heartstopper series is getting its final chapter.

Netflix has officially announced the release date for the Heartstopper movie, which will act as the finale for Nick and Charlie.

Release Date Announced

Titled Heartstopper Forever, the Heartstopper movie will release on Netflix on July 17th.

For the announcement, Netflix released a video montage of the cast through the first three seasons, ending with a behind-the-scenes image for the film.

For readers, the movie will drop after the final book, Volume 6, publishes on July 2nd.

Heartstopper Movie Plot

The Heartstopper movie will pick up right from the Season 3 finale, where the couple and some of their friends took their relationship to the next level.

Nick helped Charlie through his struggles with OCD and an eating disorder at the end of the season, later touring colleges with their gal pals. Now, Nick is about to head to university, and Charlie is getting more confident at school, but one thing looms large: long-distance.

Will the couple be able to survive their next hurdle?

Netflix released an official synopsis, which states: “Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?”

The film will act as the fourth season of Heartstopper.

Ending a Series

Oseman talked about ending the series on Netflix’s Tudum site.

She said, “On a basic level, of course, I want the movie to be a beautiful and emotional send-off for the ‘Heartstopper’ story — celebrating what ‘Heartstopper’ means to people, while offering a chance to say goodbye to our beloved characters, and many hints of what’s to come in the characters’ future lives.”

However, if some fans are apprehensive about a movie rather than a film, Oseman completely understands. She was skeptical, too, at first.

“But once I began to see the entire vision, I knew it would be something even more beautiful than a regular season could achieve,” she shared.

“We are feeling very ambitious about what is possible in a movie format. With no need for end-of-episode cliffhangers or a new twist every episode, every part of ‘Heartstopper’ can be elevated to a higher quality to create something memorable, sophisticated, and atmospheric.”

Oseman finished by saying, “The movie will be an exploration of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings, and the core element of Heartstopper: the ordinary magic of our everyday lives.”
