Florence Pugh to Star in Novel Adaptation ‘The Midnight Library’

Florence Pugh is set to star in and produce The Midnight Library.

The long-awaited film is an adaptation of Matt Haig’s bestselling novel. Garth Davis is directing.

Florence Pugh has been chosen to star in the upcoming film.

Along with Pugh, Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures have attached Garth Davis (Lion) to direct from a screenplay by Laura Wade (Rivals, The Riot Club) and Nick Payne (We Live in Time, The Sense of an Ending).

Executive producers include Ben Knight, Diarmuid McKeown, Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Dan MacRae, and Matt Haig. Producers include Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, Anita Overland, and Florence Pugh.

The film is set to go into pre-production in the fall, with filming expected to begin in early 2027.

The Midnight Library

Florence Pugh will play Nora Seed, a woman who finds herself in a peculiar library between life and death. She can experience all the potential lives she could have lived by looking at books in the library, and see what choices impacted her life.

The story is described as a “love letter to life,” and focuses on mental health topics such as depression, suicide, and regret.

The novel was published in 2020, and has since sold 15 million copies worldwide and been translated into 56 languages. As for the audiobook, it is read by Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan.

Davis shared his excitement about the film and working with Pugh again with Variety.

He said, “I couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Florence Pugh on ‘The Midnight Library.’ Her warmth and talent are magical, and together I know we’ll do something special working with Matt’s iconic novel. This is a story that moves us both — a celebration of life in all its possibility and complexity. With Graham Broadbent, Blueprint Pictures and Studiocanal behind us, I can’t wait to illuminate this adventure.”

Matt Haig also shared his input about the upcoming adaptation.

“I am so happy that Nora’s story is in such great hands, and that her myriad possibilities will be vividly reawakened by the absolute perfect team. And I can’t wait for people to see my book reimagined for the big screen.”

Florence Pugh is an extremely prominent actress, known well for her roles in Midsommar, Little Women, and as Yelena Belova in the MCU. She has appeared in a variety of genres and roles, showcasing her acting prowess.

Recent films she’s appeared in include We Live in Time, Dune: Part Two, Oppenheimer, Don’t Worry Darling, and Thunderbolts*.
