Limited Release Schedule
In a post on social media, Netflix released the rollout dates for Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation. The film will have a limited theatrical release in the United States on October 17th, 2025. It will arrive globally on Netflix on November 7th, 2025.
According to the post, the principal cast includes Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz.
A Different Kind of Frankenstein
The excitement started circling around Frankenstein at Netflix’s Tudum event, where the platform released first-look images and a teaser. Unlike other renditions of Mary Shelley’s novel, this one will be an emotionally driven reimagining rather than a straight horror film.
It has been under wraps for a long time, with director Guillermo del Toro having a decades-long attachment to the material.
Casting updates have slowly been forthcoming about leading figures, such as Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza, Jacob Elordi as the Creature (replacing Andrew Garfield), and Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz entering as supporting characters.
An official runtime for the film has not been released yet.

Festival Engagement
While the film may have a limited theatrical release, that doesn’t mean the film won’t appear during the festival circuit. Reports claim there will be screenings of Frankenstein at major fall festivals, which will help build critical momentum and pave the way for awards consideration in the future.
Netflix seems to be using a familiar strategy from the past by pursuing an awards-qualifying theatrical window similar to other prestige titles.
Outside the U.S. Release

Will there be an outside-the-U.S. theatrical run? While the U.S. theatrical run is confirmed, the platform has not announced a theatrical release schedule for Mexico or other non-U.S. territories.
Mexican fans and outlets have expressed interest in del Toro and Netflix extending the window to Mexico, but as of the August 18th announcement, there are only U.S. dates confirmed.

Will it be a Success?
Frankenstein is a return to Gothic source material for Guillermo del Toro, who has previously worked on several high-profile projects. We can already see just from the first-look images and the teaser that the director’s signature blend of visual craftsmanship and emotional storytelling is there in full force.
Whether the film’s strategy will translate into awards-season success will depend on critics’ reception at early screenings and festivals, and how viewers take the film once it’s available on Netflix in November.
As of now, the schedule for the film is festival appearances and a limited U.S. theatrical release starting October 17th. Then, the Netflix global premiere will occur on November 7th for all viewers to enjoy.
