Paul Rudd and Jack Black‘s latest film, Anaconda, is about to be available to stream at home on Netflix.
Premiering in theaters in December 2025, the film is getting a quick turnaround and may be reflecting broader trends in the theatre-to-streaming time windows.
Quick Streaming Turnaround
Unlike many other feature films, Anaconda is streaming quite a bit earlier. Why is that?
Sony Pictures Entertainment currently has a lucrative streaming deal with Netflix. Known as the Pay 1 window deal, it allows major theatrical releases to hit the platform within 90 days.
This is reflected in the December 25th, 2025, release and March 25th, 2025, streaming debut. Normally, it usually takes 120 days for a new Sony film to hit the service.
While neither company has commented on the shortened window, it could reflect a shift in how quickly studios are willing to bring new movies to streaming platforms.
Netflix will have exclusive streaming rights to Anaconda in the United States for 18 months, and after that, the film will head to Hulu.
What is Anaconda About?

It’s important to know that the 2025 film is not a remake of the 1997 original.
However, it is set in a world where the 1997 original was released, following a “group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.”
The comedy is meant to parody Hollywood obsessions and nostalgia.
Behind the Scenes & Cast
Tom Gormican directed the film, using a screenplay he co-wrote with Kevin Etten. The reboot is the seventh film in the franchise, and the first English-language installment in a decade.
Cast members included Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello.
Results at the Box Office
The film had a $45 million budget and earned $135 million globally during its theatrical run for Sony Pictures.
It became the second-highest-grossing entry in the Anaconda franchise history, and is around three times its production investment, which is a huge win. Anaconda recovered its entire budget in just five days after its release.
The original film still holds the title, grossing just over $2 million more than the 2025 film when it premiered in 1997.
While critics gave the film mixed reviews, audiences enjoyed the comedy, giving the film a 48% critics score and 75% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Where to Stream Anaconda
Anaconda will be available to stream on Netflix with a subscription on March 25th, 2026.
