Every year, dozens of films are released in theaters. While some of them dominate the box office and hold critical acclaim, others fall a bit short, whether it’s with fan reactions or at the box office. 2025 featured several blockbuster films, but also had just as many box office flops. There were many different reasons why these films failed, from content to huge budgets, poor marketing, and other reasons. If you want to explore whether these films are worth the title or not, check out these six biggest box office flops of 2025 now.
6. The Running Man

Starting our list of box office flops of 2025 is The Running Man. The film is a remake of the 80s classic, but is much more closely tied to the original Stephen King novel, The Running Man. While audiences and critics enjoyed the film, the enormously large budget hindered the film and caused it to fall short of success. Plus, with lots of other big films coming out at the same time, The Running Man got pushed to the side. The budget for the film was $110 million, with the worldwide box office bringing in $68.4 million.
5. After the Hunt

Fifth on our list of box office flops of 2025 is After the Hunt. Luca Guadagnino is known for his work on some pretty prominent films in recent years, including Call Me by Your Name and Challengers. However, not all of his films are hits, with After the Hunt falling short of its large $70-80 million budget. The film was only able to bring in $7.1 million at the worldwide box office.
4. Mickey 17

Next on our list of box office flops of 2025 is Mickey 17. While the film may have received widespread acclaim, that same excitement didn’t translate to broader audiences, leaving Bong Joon-ho’s film pushed to the wayside. However, the film was meant to showcase Bong Joon-ho’s style of filmmaking and address anti-capitalism in a sci-fi realm, so perhaps the film will grow better with time. The film had a budget of $118 million and made $133.3 million at the worldwide box office.
3. Elio

Rounding out the top three box office flops of 2025 is Elio. While some of Disney’s animated films, like Zootopia 2 and Inside Out 2, became some of the highest-grossing films, new original animated films often fall short of expectations. While those critics and viewers who watched it enjoyed the film, many skipped the theaters and waited for the film to arrive on Disney+ instead. The film’s budget was over $200 million, and only made $154 million at the worldwide box office.
2. Tron: Ares

Second on our list of box office flops of 2025 is Tron: Ares. While Ares might be part of a beloved and appreciated franchise, none of the films have done particularly well at the box office. This is the same for the newest installment, which only earned $142.2 million at the worldwide box office with a budget of $220 million. It didn’t help that Ares had barebones storytelling, and thematics fell quite short, leaving many fans disappointed in the entire film.
1. Snow White

Last but not least on our list of box office flops of 2025 is Snow White. One of the most controversial and widely disliked major studio releases, the film was doomed before it ever even hit theaters. While some of Disney’s live-action remakes have found box office success, this film was so despised that Disney backed off from live-action films for a short period of time. The film had a budget of $269 million, and only made $205 million at the worldwide box office.
