Filming a movie is a long, difficult process. Sometimes, scenes have to be deleted so the movie fits into the desired timeframe. With these movie cuts, some fans believe the movie would have been better if these deleted movie scenes had been included. Here are 6 of the best deleted movie scenes that should have made the final cut.
6. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Cemetery Reunion
Peter Parker’s parents are presumed dead after being in a plane crash. This becomes a huge part of Peter’s origin story, shaping him into the person he is. In the canonical ending of the film, Peter’s parents’ story remains the same. However, this deleted scene shows a different story.
This scene features Peter standing at the grave of his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, throughout each season. As he stands in the snow, a man appears behind him, revealing himself as Peter’s father. He explains that he had to stay away to protect Peter from Osbourne.
This deleted scene leaves fans questioning why it was cut, and why they never received a sequel.
5. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King – Faramir and Eowyn Romance
In The Lord of the Rings, many scenes were cut for the theatrical edition of the movie. Several of these scenes give context and closure to the characters Faramir and Eowyn.
Though the two are seen together at the end of the film, it is unclear whether they are a couple. If they are a couple, fans questioned where their romantic connection came into play. Several deleted scenes feature Faramir comforting Eowyn through hardship. Their connection is evident in the added scenes, making the extended cut of the film a fan favorite.
4. The Batman – Batman Visits The Joker
When trying to figure out who The Riddler is and what his motives are, this deleted movie scene shows that Batman turns to The Joker.
The scene shows the already established relationship between this hero and the villain. The Joker recognizes The Riddler’s ambition far before Batman does, while Batman knows that The Joker can decipher the twisted mind of a villain.
Fans have mixed reactions to this scene. One fan in the comments said, “This makes The Joker scene that made it into the movie so much better, knowing that he’s already seen Riddler’s psych profile and knows EXACTLY what to say and what buttons to push to manipulate and recruit him.”
Another fan admitted, “I understand why they cut this scene, it would have immediately diminished the threat and impact of the Riddler, knowing a better, scarier villain is right around the corner.”
3. Back to the Future – Peanut Brittle
Many fans question why George McFly is seen eating a bowl of peanut brittle alongside his dinner. This deleted movie scene gives the humorous context while showcasing George’s personality and reputation.
Marty tries to teach his dad the value of saying no and standing up for himself. When a neighbor barges in and asks him to buy a case of peanut brittle at $5 a box, George reluctantly agrees. The neighbor then turns to his daughter, saying, “I told you we only had to go to one house!”
$5 in the 1980s is worth about $21 today.
2. Batman Forever – Robin Training
Bruce Wayne finds Robin, Dick Grayson, training to fight. When Wayne tries to be a friend to him, Grayson puts up a wall.
Wayne tries taking on a more fatherly approach, as he gives him advice against excessive revenge seeking. However, his attempts fail. This scene helps fans understand and connect with both characters better, as well as understand their relationship more fully.
A fan in the comments said, “Further proof of how GREAT this movie could have been…”
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1: Harry and Dudley Say Goodbye
Many fans view this as one of the best deleted movie scenes due to the character development it could have provided. Throughout the seven books and eight movies, Harry Potter has always had a rocky relationship with his aunt, uncle, and cousin. They were known for treating him poorly, starting by making him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs.
After years of abuse and name-calling, Harry finally says his final goodbye to the Dursleys. Before they leave, however, Dudley approaches Harry. He says, “I don’t think you’re a waste of space.”
This is in response to the Dursleys, particularly Harry’s uncle, calling Harry a waste of space. Many fans are upset that this scene was deleted, as it showcases incredible character development.
One fan shared, “I’m so angry this was deleted. This only helped to prove that Dudley was manipulated by his parents and really shows how much he’s grown as an individual.”
