Maleficent: Mistress of Evil hit theaters everywhere on October 18, so when can we expect its eventual release date on Disney+?
The Sleeping Beauty antagonist-driven smash hit should be available to stream on Disney’s brand-new platform sometime around May 19, 2020.
There’s some guesswork here involving how far out the film is from its theatrical run to its ultimate streaming destination.
Angelina Jolie still a big box-office draw
Firstly, here’s a quick synopsis of the film:
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a fantasy adventure that […] continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.Disney
Yes, it helps to have the big Disney brand and marketing behind a movie. However, grossing over $400 million at the global box office doesn’t just happen on the strength of those factors.
In only her second live-action film role since 2015, Jolie drew plenty of audiences out across the world. She’s still an excellent actor despite taking on more producing and directing gigs these days.
Lukewarm reception from critics didn’t stop this villain-centered story from taking off. Despite a 41 percent from Rotten Tomatoes critics, the site’s audience score was far more favorable at 95 percent.
It seems like a sequel could definitely be in play given how lucrative this franchise has been for Disney thus far. The first Maleficent made an incredible $758.4 million at the box office.
This follow-up is a considerable step down from that figure. Nevertheless, there’s real potential for a trilogy if the studio can turn out a story that does well with critics.
The Mouse House is bringing out all the bells, whistles and stunning visuals, which means Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will be presented on Disney+ in 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.
You won’t have to pay extra for higher quality, either. The $6.99 monthly price tag of Disney+ will offer the best possible presentation of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in terms of video and audio quality.
