Queen Charlotte Bridgerton Story Released: Initial Thoughts

You may have seen that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story released on Netflix recently. Since then, everyone, including me, has been talking about it. I have seen the original show, Bridgerton, and was intrigued when I found that they were doing a prequel to show how Queen Charlotte got into her role and explain King George’s illness. The original series doesn’t entirely cover how his illness occurred, so this was my biggest curiosity going into Netflix’s latest release.

I watched it in one sitting and spent my Friday after work going down the rabbit hole of the mini-series. As a result, I will break down an honest Queen Charlotte review and show you why it’s definitely worth a binge.

What Is Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story About?

The show is a prequel, as I mentioned, about Queen Charlotte and how she will marry the King of England. After her brother signed a deal to form an alliance between the two countries, she is meant to solidify their union in a marriage. Her first encounter with the King is attempting to climb over the garden wall where she makes quite an impression on him.

Things worsen when the King says she must stay in her castle while he stays across town at the Kew palace. We don’t know why the King is so closed off, but soon we learn that he is struggling with a mental illness. They could never explain it back then because it wasn’t as common and they didn’t have the right tools or medicines.

The story takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. I was truly in my feelings because the show was written was so well. It felt extremely descriptive and you could truly empathize with the characters, especially when they were suffering. The actors were able to tell the story of how young Queen Charlotte and King George got together in a realistic and convincing way. It switches from the past to the present so that you will see the characters in their younger lives as well as when they are older.

When watching the show, I was interested to know that the actor, Corey Mylchreest, that plays young George is rather inexperienced. This wasn’t a bad thing at all because he was excellent, but it was his first leading role. I actually like that this series has brought more actors into the limelight because on the other hand, the main actress is India Amarteifio from Ginny & Georgia who has been very popular lately. In my opinion, all of the actors did a phenomenal job, but it’s always nice to see some new faces.

If you love a good love story, then this show is just for you. Usually, I wouldn’t say I like romance genre unless the storyline and plot are excellent. Half the time, romances follow very similar plot lines, so I am not surprised or invested. This show has a story, romance, and a great storyline, and it is nothing like other romance shows. It is entirely set apart from what has been released so far this year, especially on Netflix, which makes the show such a hit.

This is definitely my favorite series right now. They showed the fans everything you would want to see in just six, short episodes. I don’t want to give away too much if you haven’t seen the show yet, but know that I am definitely recommending this one as worth watching. I suggest cuddling with a blanket, popcorn, and a drink to watch it because you will not want to stop until you finish the series. Make sure to have a box of tissues because if you are anything like me, you will be crying through the many gut-wrenching scenes.

As you can see, I could go on and on and explain more of the emotional depth, but you have to watch it yourself to understand why it is so excellent. Netflix did a fantastic job with the production, and even though I have my doubts about Netflix when it comes to their originals, they pulled me right back in. Clearly, Queen Charlotte will be trending for quite some time.
